About the Research and Innovation Authority

The Research and Innovation Authority (VAIA) is an organisation within the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister responsible for research, innovation and talent policies with a vision to transform Slovakia into an ambitious and innovative country.

VAIA’s mission is to deepen Slovakia’s position in research and attract top talent from abroad.

The main objectives and priorities of Slovakia in the field of research, development and innovation are set by the implementation of the National Strategy for Research, Development and Innovation 2030.

VAIA is primarily guided by good quality data and relevant examples of good international practice. It develops public policies together with the research and innovation ecosystem. VAIA’s values are trust, transparency, collaboration and openness to innovative ideas and approaches.

VAIA was established in 2021 in the Government Office as the implementer of Component 9 of the Recovery and Resilience Plan with responsibility for reforming the management, evaluation and support for science, research and innovation.
